The federal Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) provides assistance to low-income residents with their energy costs.   The assistance is a one-time payment ranging from $175 to $292 paid directly to PG&E.   For two people, expect the lower amount of $175.

To qualify, your monthly gross income must be less than $2,045 for one person or $2,675 for two people.  Income includes social security.   The program is being administered in San Jose through sacred Heart Community Service.

In addition to a complete application, the following must be included:

  1. A copy of all pages of your current month’s PG&E bill
  2. Documentation of income from all sources for all people living in your household.   This documentation of must cover a one-month period and must be dated within six weeks of your application.

After your application is received and approved, it takes six to eight weeks for the payment to be made to PG&E.

For further information and for an application, please contact www.sacredheartenergy.org or call Sacred Heart Community Energy Service at 1+877-278-6455.
